Description: Therapists, educators, and parents are noting that behaviors across a continuum of diagnostic categories are ever increasing in numbers. Therapists have many wonderful ideas to support goals and growth for developmental delay, if only they could get the “behaviors” under control! This workshop will explore behavior from several different frames of references to support the clinical thinking process. Included will be a hierarchical overview from a developmental lens and its impact on different aspects of academic, social, and emotional performance areas. The impact of attachment and trauma is immense, and the guiding principles of intervention will be helpful to all. The workshop will also discuss the way autistics think (as best we can!) and propose respectful ways of mobilizing their mind towards a calmer experience that would be supportive of new learning going forward. Intervention ideas will be shared throughout, and the participant will feel equipped with multiple practical ideas to consider in intervention. This workshop is applicable for interdisciplinary teams as well as across the age and stage continuum of development. It is a one-of-a-kind workshop that is not to be missed!
