How does one apply the Developmental Individual Differences, Relationship Model (DIR) in the school system? Is DIR only about play and does it hold any educational relevance at all?

This workshop will use Dr. Stanley Greenspan’s 6 developmental milestones and provide educational reasoning for applying this model in the school system. The DIR/Floortime model is complements many teaching models, including utilizing “teachable moments” in early intervention.

Educators working in pre-school settings will find the model and strategies helpful in planning intervention, targeting various behaviors, and educational and clinical reasoning. Be prepared to use social-emotional development that supports educational goals with a team approach that will provide consistent, similar expectations that will serve every child’s need for emotional safety and security, thus making them more available for learning. During the afternoon program, we will discuss two cases from the preschool prepared by two educators on a ppt template provided by the speaker to demonstrate application in the school system.

Note: This workshop supports the DIR Model created and trained through ICDL; however, it does not replace this certificate training. It may behoove the participant to also complete the DIR101 training which is offered through Bridging Talents each November.
